Summer Wheat is continually inspired by a rejuvenated legacy of women as the original hunters and gatherers, technologists, and artists. The artist highlights the alchemizing nature of women’s productivity and drawing analogies to labor both seen and unseen in jovial color and lively, geometric compositions. Rendering her digital drawings into paintings through a wide variety of media and techniques, the artist invigorates the physicality of life and labor with ecstatic color and unexpected details.

Beekeeper shows a central female figure rendered in jubilant, vibrant blues with rich yellow gloves and her hands raised. The artist’s quality of line emphasizes the textural essence of fabric and wire, from the hatched mask with thin lines to the swift yellow details on the cobalt pants that stretch toward the bottom of the canvas. Bees speckled throughout the painting reemphasize the variety of yellow tones contrasted in the gloves and pants—acknowledging both the surrender and control necessary to beekeeping as a practice. The artist has hand-embellished the pieces with gold acrylic bees, making each print a unique work.  

In honor of Earth Month, ten trees will be planted for each print sale of works in this series commissioned on the occasion of EXPO CHICAGO 2022. The artist will also receive 50% of net proceeds from each sale.
